Gia Lai: Stepping up in-depth consultation and inter-sectoral supervision of PanNature’s activities
In order to strengthen State management of affiliated science and technology organizations and promote sustainable forestry development, Gia Lai province has recorded a series of important activities by PanNature: from a multi-stakeholder expert consultation workshop on September 8, 2026, to a field-based inter-sectoral supervision mission by VUSTA on September 11-12, 2026.

The People and Nature Reconciliation (PanNature) is a science and technology organization affiliated with VUSTA, operating under Registration Certificate No. A-475 issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology. In Gia Lai province, PanNature is currently coordinating the implementation of the project “Support for Landscape Forestry Tree Planting and Agroforestry Development in Gia Lai Province” (the GLAD Project). The project was approved by VUSTA under Decision No. 849/QD-LHHVN dated October 24, 2025, with an implementation roadmap running from 2025 to 2035 across 70 communes in the province. Earlier, from July 11 to 17, 2026, the GLAD Project Management Board, headed by Mr. Trinh Le Nguyen, completed a survey of the current status of agroforestry (AF) models in the province’s key ecological areas to prepare field data.
Opening the series of events, on September 8, 2026, the GLAD Project Management Board held a thematic workshop titled “Developing Agroforestry Models: Current Status, Lessons Learned, and Directions for Gia Lai Province” in Kbang commune. The event brought together more than 60 delegates representing management agencies, research institutes, and local authorities. Experts and scientists presented in-depth topics such as AF potential in the Central Highlands, AF models by ecological zone in Gia Lai, experience in developing AF for ethnic minority communities, techniques for arranging canopy-layer tree species, and the role of the agroforestry value chain. In the afternoon of the same day, the workshop was divided into three discussion groups on: (1) agro-forestry and ecological technical factors; (2) social, cultural, and community-engagement factors; (3) economic, market, and business/cooperative linkage factors.
Following the workshop, VUSTA dispatched an inter-sectoral supervision delegation to work in Gia Lai province, headed by Pham Ngoc Linh, Vice Chairman of VUSTA’s Central Council, with representatives from the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and VUSTA’s Department of International Cooperation, among others.
The delegation was tasked with assessing the organizational and operational status of PanNature and verifying the actual progress of the GLAD Project on the ground. Specifically: on the first day, the delegation worked with the Kbang Forest Protection Unit on forest protection coordination; met with the Dak Rong Commune People’s Committee to hear a progress report on the GLAD Project; and then visited an agroforestry model in Kon Loc I village in person, conducting a field inspection of the tree-planting areas under the GLAD Project in Kbang commune. The delegation highly commended PanNature’s community-based approach. The GLAD Project does not stop at planting landscape forestry trees or restoring forests; it has genuinely linked benefits to local residents while enhancing their sense of responsibility and capacity. Proactively engaging with and guiding local people on managing, tending, and protecting trees after planting is a practical approach that ensures the long-term sustainability of the restored forest area.
On the second day, the delegation took part in and supervised tree-planting activities at the community forest in Krong commune, discussed with local residents the plan for managing and protecting the trees once planting was complete, and held a quick wrap-up meeting on the supervision results in Krong commune.

The combination of the multi-stakeholder policy and technical consultation workshop with the inter-sectoral field supervision mission reflects the comprehensiveness of PanNature’s operating approach in the Central Highlands. This provides an important basis for ensuring that the GLAD Project’s agroforestry models both comply with State management orientations and suit local cultural practices, contributing to forest ecosystem restoration and improved sustainable livelihoods for the people of Gia Lai. The inter-sectoral supervision mission not only demonstrates VUSTA’s role and responsibility toward its affiliated units but also creates a direct coordination channel among management agencies, social organizations, local authorities, and local communities. The delegation’s on-site survey in Kon Loc I village, covering 5 hectares where local residents grow honey pineapple under the project, as well as the planted forest areas in Kbang and Krong, provides an important basis for practical assessment, helping to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of the GLAD Project and PanNature’s forest restoration activities in Gia Lai.
