Launch of the Project “Strengthening Local Community Participation in Forest Protection in Huế City – Phase 2”

On 25 August 2026, the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (SRD), in coordination with Phong Điền People’s Committee, launched the Project VM083, “Enhacing local community participation in forest protection in Huế - Phase 2”.

Attending the meeting were representatives of the leadership of VUSTA’s Department of Science and International cooperation; leaders of Phong Điền People’s Committee; representatives of the SRD Centre; relevant agencies and technical units; and representatives of Community Forest Management Board in the project areas of Huế. Mr Hồ Đôn, Chairman of Phong Điền People’s Committee, and Ms Vũ Thị Bích Hợp, Director of the SRD Centre, co-chaired the meeting.

At the meeting, Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Thanh Huyền, Deputy Head of VUSTA’s Department of Science and International cooperation, highlighted the support, coordination and guidance provided by local authorities, Phong Điền People’s Committee and relevant agencies throughout the upcoming project implementation.

The project’s objectives, expected outcomes and key activities were discussed, and the arrangements for coordination during its implementation at the local level were also agreed upon.

Project VM083 is led by the SRD Centre and funded through a non-refundable grant from Solidaritätsdienst International e.V. (SODI). The project was approved by VUSTA, in accordance with Decree No. 313/2025/NĐ-CP, which will be implemented in Phong Điền until April 2030, contributing to sustainable forest protection and development in Phong Điền, Huế.

The project focuses on strengthening community capacity and participation in forest protection and development; promoting agroforestry livelihood models linked to forest restoration and biodiversity conservation; and strengthening coordination among local authorities, technical agencies, forest owners and communities.

During its implementation, the project is expected to establish at least four agroforestry livelihood models and provide capacity-building support to Community Forest Management Boards and community groups in the project areas.
