Meeting with Vietnam Electricity to prepare for AFEO Midterm 2025 Conference

On February 20, 2025 – at Vietnam Electricity (EVN)’s headquarters, the leadership of the VUSTA held a meeting with EVN’s board of directors and the VEEA to discuss collaboration between parties in organizing Midterm Conference of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations (AFEO Midterm Conference 2025), scheduled to take place from August 5 to August 8, 2025, in Da Nang City.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Sc. Phan Xuan Dung, President of Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh, Vice President of VUSTA; Mr. Mai Quoc Hoi, Vice President of Vietnam Electrical Engineering Association (VEEA); Mr. Ngo Son Hai, Deputy Director General of EVN; Leaders and heads of related departments.

In welcome speech, President Phan Xuan Dung highly appreciated the support and collaboration of EVN and VEEA in assisting VUSTA in fulfilling responsibilities as a member of the AFEO Federation, an entity recognized under the ASEAN Charter, representing 10 national engineering organizations. VUSTA has been Vietnam’s sole representative in AFEO since 1998 and has actively contributed to connecting the engineering community and promoting regional integration, specializing in supporting the registration of 716 Vietnamese engineers as ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineers, 2/3 of whom are working in the electricity sector. The AFEO Federation hosts two major conferences annually: the Midterm Conference and the annual Conference of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations (CAFEO), which rotate among ASEAN members countries. In 2025, VUSTA will host the AFEO Midterm Conference in collaboration with EVN, VEEA and other relevant organizations in technical activities and event organization, will be the key factor ensuring the conference’s success.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh shared further details about the Conference, which will take place from August 05 to August 08, 2025 in Da Nang City. The Conference is expected to attract 300 delegates including managers, corporates, professional engineers, technical experts, and high skilled workers across the region. The conference will feature approximately 15 workshop sessions on specialized technical topics and meetings of the AFEO Gorverning Board, Women Engineers, Young Engineers and the ASEAN Chartered Professional Engineers Registration Committee.

During the meeting, Mr. Ngo Son Hai, EVN’s Deputy Director General, expressed his interest and agreed to strongly support and collaborate with VUSTA in organizing this Conference successfully. This is an important conference for ASEAN engineering community. The collaboration among EVN, VUSTA and VEEA in organizing the AFEO Midterm Conference 2025 will not only reinforce the position of Vietnam’s electricity sector in the region but also creates opportunites  for connection and collaboration in the technical and sientific sectors.

The AFEO Midterm Conference in Da Nang will provide a platform for regional experts, engineers, corporates to share their experiences, stay updated on the latest technological trends and promote sustainable development in ASEAN’s engineering sector.

Green Forest Program to launch in 2024
To celebrate World Environment Day (June 5th), VUSTA and the Center for People and Nature (PanNature) coordinated with the local authority to hold a launching ceremony for the 2024 Green Forest Program on the morning of June 2nd (2024). The program aims to restore 10 hectares of forest in Van Ho (Son La) and 15 in Hang Kia - Pa Co Nature Reserve.

Vusta participates in the Lancang-Mekong Engineers Forum
From December 4 to 7, 2024, the Lancang-Mekong Engineers Forum took place in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China. The forum, themed "Engineering Innovation and Win-Win Cooperation", was hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and organized by the Chinese Society of Engineers (CSE).
Assessment of the current situation and proposed solutions to mitigate the impacts of open burning in Vietnam
Despite 68% of surveyed individuals expressing environmental awareness and 80% acknowledging health concerns, a significant portion still plans to continue "field burning" (open burning in agriculture).
