VUSTA’ Delegation Held Working Session with Quang Ninh CDC on HIV/AIDS Prevention

VUSTA held a working session with leaders of Quang Ninh Provincial Center for Disease Control (Quang Ninh CDC) to review the implementation progress of HIV/AIDS prevention activities under the Global Fund - VUSTA project, June 27, 2025.

The delegation was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh, Vice President of VUSTA and Director of the Global Fund Project Management Board, alongside Mr. Pham Nguyen Ha, Deputy Director of the Board. Also in attendance were representatives from VUSTA’s Department of Science and International Cooperation, project management staff, and leaders of the Center for Supporting Community Development Initiatives (SCDI Center). Representing Quang Ninh CDC were Dr. Vu Quyet Thang, CDC Director, and Dr. Luu Thanh Hai, Head of the HIV/AIDS Prevention Department, along with department staff.

During the working session, representatives from the SCDI Center, the implementation body of the Global Fund - VUSTA project in Quang Ninh, provided an overview of the project’s progress, reporting that approximately 70% of the operational targets had been met in the first six months of the year. Members of the delegation also shared insights from field monitoring, highlighting the effectiveness of intervention models and the strong collaboration between the project’s community-based organizations and local stakeholders. Discussions further focused on proposals to enhance coordination between VUSTA and Quang Ninh CDC moving forward.

Speaking at the working session, Dr. Vu Quyet Thang, Director of Quang Ninh CDC, commended the VUSTA Project and community organizations for their partnership in HIV/AIDS prevention and control efforts across the province. He emphasized that the project’s responsive, flexible, and effective support has enabled multiple intervention models to successfully reach key populations, improving treatment adherence and reducing stigma against people living with HIV. Dr. Thang also acknowledged the recommendations put forward by SCDI Center and the delegation, reaffirming Quang Ninh CDC’s commitment to strengthening collaboration for effective project implementation and the prompt issuance of community ID cards to peer outreach workers in full compliance with regulations.

In his closing remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh, Vice President of VUSTA and Director of the Global Fund Project Management Board, commended the cooperative spirit and efforts of Quang Ninh CDC in implementing the project locally. He expressed hope for continued close collaboration between both parties to achieve the goal of sustainable HIV/AIDS control. Additionally, he reaffirmed the commitment to ensure all implementing units strictly adhere to relevant regulations throughout the project’s execution.
