VUSTA President paid a working visit to VIASEE and the Journal of Environmental Economics

Ha Noi, morning of June 11, 2021, Dr. Sc Phan Xuan Dung, Secretary of the Party Committee, VUSTA President paid a working visit to the Vietnam Association for Environmental Economic (VIASEE) and the Journal of Environmental Economics.

Joining the His Exellency at the working visit were Assoc. Receiving the VUSTA team were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Manh Tien, Member of the Presidium of VUSTA, Chairman of VIASEE and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen The Chinh, Vice President of VIASEE; Master, Journalist Phan Chi Hieu, Vice President of VIASEE, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Environmental Economics; Journalist Nguyen Tuong Quan, Chief of Office of VIASEE, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Environmental Economics; Master Pham Thi Mai, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Center for Environmental Economics (EEC, under VIASEE); Lawyer Ha Huy Phong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Economic and Environmental Policy (EEPI, under VIASEE) and representatives of leaders of departments, institutes and centers under VIASEE.

In his report, Dr. Truong Manh Tien revealed that VIASEE was established in 2000, has experienced an impression journey with significant contribution to building the green economy of the country. For 20 years, VIASEE has promoted its role and mission in social consultancy and evaluation of policies related to environmental protection, green economy, circular economy.

VIASEE defines itself as a prestigious and responsible member association in VUSTA’s system, therefore it is always proactive to disseminate the policies of the Party and State; VUSTA's guidelines and orientations on economic development coupled with environmental protection. The activities of VIASEE always adhere to the principles and purposes, promote communication on the development of a green economy, a circular economy in accordance with the development orientation of the country in the new period.

Dr. Truong Manh Tien cited, in addition to social consultancy and evaluation activity, VIASEE's consulting and technology transfer activities are also highly appreciated. The Center for Environmental Economics has completed and transferred the technology of the small-scale domestic waste incinerator at the district level in Nong Cong, Thanh Hoa province. It is a well recognized plant as meeting the requirements of waste treatment. The Center for Environmental Economics was licensed by the National Office of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology) for two useful solutions.

On March 2020, VIASEE submitted a petition to the Prime Minister on strategies and solutions for exploiting bauxite minerals, promoting the development of the Aluminum industry in the Central Highlands. This proposal has significantly contributed ideas and comments for the development and completion of the draft document of the 13th Party Congress on socio-economic issues.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Manh Tien shared, the year 2021 is considered a successful year as VIASEE has officially established the Institute of Environmental Economic Policy and launched the Green Happy Seed Fund which donated more than 50,000 medical face masks, 3,000 medical gloves and many other items, joins hands with the country to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. This is an example of humane activity that the Green Happy Seed Fund performs in 2021 and keeps doing in the following years.

As a member of the VUSTA Presidium, in charge of the environment sector, Mr. Tien affirmed that in the coming time VIASEE will put more effort to gain better results and fulfill the mission entrusted by VUSTA through social consultancy and evaluation activities on environmental economy, green economy and circular economy".

At the meeting, Reporter Phan Chi Hieu, Vice President of VIASEE, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Environmental Economics reported to Dr. Phan Xuan Dung on the operation of the Journal of Environmental Economics. Accordingly, thanks to the attention of VUSTA and VIASEE, the efforts and solidarity of the collective leaders, officers, reporters, editors, the Journal has achieved many encouraged results and fulfilled tasks as set out in the first 6 months of 2021.

The Journal of Environmental Economics maintains the deliver of 4 issues per month, and publishes a scientific research issue every quarter. The information is updated regularly on the website Kinhtemoitruong.vn and Kinhtesinh.vn, in accordance with the principles and purposes, close and useful to readers. Recently, the Journal of Environmental Economics has just launched the website VNgreen.vn – The social network for a green Vietnam marked as the first social network for the environment in Vietnam.

We are very proud that the Journal of Environmental Economics is always highly appreciated in the VUSTA’s press system as well as among other press agencies. Building a national green economy based on economic - environmental - social pillars has always been the guiding principle and purpose throughout the Journal's communication messages. The Journal makes it as a channel of social consultancy and evaluation for the country's green economy shown in a number of in-depth articles on the protection of natural resources and the environment, said Editor-in-Chief Phan Chi Hieu.

As a press agency under VUSTA, the Journal of Environmental Economics has been an important information channel in disseminating VUSTA's activities, policies and guidelines of State agencies to the people. Especially information on economic and environmental fields.

Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Phan Xuan Dung acknowledged the results VIASEE has achieved in 20 years of development. "The above achievements once again confirm that VIASEE has operated in the right direction and effectively in the system of VUSTA", “The environment is a very complex and sensitive issue, however VIASEE's recent activities have always been highly appreciated by the State agencies, MONRE and VUSTA. I believe that VIASEE will successfully complete action plan for near future as set out", Dr. Phan Xuan Dung asserted.

Limitation resources and unable conditions brought difficulties for a professional association’s operation for over past years. However, VIASEE has accomplished many crucial tasks and been highly appreciated thanked for direction of the Head. “Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Manh Tien and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen The Chinh are both genuine and experienced scientists as well as leaders of the Association. In addition, looking at VIASEE's personnel, I see a connection between generations. They are all passionate people on their work" said VUSTA President.

According to the President of VUSTA, the Party and State always attach great importance to environmental protection and economic development associated with environmental protection. Therefore, Vietnam is highly appreciated in environmental protection work by international partners. Communication of environmental protection, giving suggestions and comments for regulations and policies on environmental protection are also principles and purposes of VIASEE.

Dr. Phan Xuan Dung also praised the Journal’s activities and affirmed that to gain significant influence the press must follow the principles and purposes, especially get to the heart of the issue. The Journal of Environmental Economics publishes 4 issues per month and 4 quarterly scientific special issue per year showing the tireless efforts of all staff. “The Journal of Environmental Economics is one of the journals I regularly read and have professional discussion at VUSTA's meetings. The Journal provides in-depth, accurate and valuable scientific articles", said VUSTA President.

After the meeting, Dr. Phan Xuan Dung and VUSTA's delegation visited the headquarters. The delegation sent greetings to the Editorial Board and reporters working at the Journal of Environmental Economics on the occasion of the 96th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2021). The President of VUSTA wished the Journal of Environmental Economics to gain better development in the coming time and expressed his belief that the Journal will become the leading press agency in popularizing the activities of the VUSTA.

On behalf of VIASEE and the Journal of Environmental Economics, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Manh Tien thanked Dr. Phan Xuan Dung, and congratulated the President of VUSTA on being re-elected as a member of the 15th National Assembly (term of 2021-2026). Dr. Tien affirmed that the Journal of Environmental Economics will fulfill its assigned mission, being an effective communication channel for the guidelines and policies of the Party, the State and VUSTA's direction in environmental protection, green economy, circular economy and sustainable development in Vietnam.

It is an honor and pride for the Journal of Environmental Economics Dr. Sc Phan Xuan Dung is also one of the scientists playing important roles in the Editorial Council and Advisory Council of the Journal for over 15 years. He also made great contributions in laying the foundation for the Journal from the very beginning.

While playing role as a Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee for Science, Technology and Environment, Dr. Sc Phan Xuan Dung was known as a person who contributed many valuable ideas and initiatives to the Government on economic development associated with environmental protection. Therefore, the President of VUSTA always considers environmental protection as one of the key tasks and activities of VUSTA in the coming time.

Accordingly, the selection of VIASEE and the Journal of Environmental Economics for his first visit as President of VUSTA would confirm the important role of VIASEE as well as the Journal of Environmental Economics in the general development of VUSTA in the coming year.
