SUDECOM launched the project to support ethnic minority youth in Lao Cai
On 7th April, in Lao Cai, the delegation from Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations attended the conference launching the project titled “Supporting the improvement of quality of life and job creation for youth from ethnic minority communities in mountainous areas of Lao Cai Province”, implemented by the Center for Sustainable Development Support for Ethnic Minority Communities.
The conference was attended by representatives of provincial departments, agencies, and mass organizations of Lao Cai Province; the sponsor organization Terre des Hommes; as well as households from four villages participating in the project.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Le Thi Hong Hiep, Director of the SUDECOM Center, shared the project’s objectives, expected outcomes, and key activities under the project “Supporting the improvement of quality of life and job creation for youth from ethnic minority communities in mountainous areas of Lao Cai Province.” The project was approved by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations under Decision No. 160/QĐ-LHHVN dated March 3, 2026. It is funded through non-refundable, non-ODA aid from the organizations Bread for the World and Terre des Hommes (Germany), and is being implemented in Phong Du Ha Commune and Yen Thanh Commune, Lao Cai Province. With a duration of 20 months, the project aims to empower ethnic minority communities and youth to adopt environmentally friendly livelihood models and promote sustainable development.

Ms. Le Thi Hong Hiep, Director of the SUDECOM Center, delivered the opening remarks at the conference.
At the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, Deputy Head of the Department of Science and International Cooperation under the VUSTA, congratulated the SUDECOM Center on successfully mobilizing and receiving support for the implementation of the project. She also expressed appreciation to provincial departments, agencies, and mass organizations for their coordination and support to the VUSTA in the appraisal and management of non-refundable foreign aid projects implemented by its affiliated organizations in general, and by the SUDECOM Center in Lao Cai Province in particular. She further recommended that the SUDECOM Center continue to strengthen coordination and regularly report to relevant local stakeholders to ensure the effective implementation of project activities in the coming period.

The conference also heard presentations from representatives of the Lao Cai Department of Ethnic and Religious Affairs, as well as local leaders from the communes and villages participating in the project. These contributions focused on discussing coordination mechanisms to ensure the effective implementation of project activities and compliance with relevant state regulations.
