VUSTA President Phan Xuan Dung attended the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Vietnam Economic Association

The Vietnam Economic Association (VEA) was established in 1975, immediately after the country’s reunification. For half a century, the Association has played a pivotal role in policy advisory activities addressing Vietnam's most critical national issues.

On the morning of July 26 in Hanoi, VEA solemnly celebrated its 50th Anniversary Celebration (July 1, 1975 - July 1, 2025). In attendance were current and former leaders of central and local agencies, including: Comrade Phan Dien, former Politburo member and former Executive Secretary of CPV Central Committee; Dr. Sc. Phan Xuan Dung, President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA); Dr. Nguyen Duc Hien, Deputy Head of the Central Committee’s Policy and Strategy Department; alongside prominent scientists, economists, and representatives from research institutes, universities, and scientific organizations nationwide.

VEA was established on July 1, 1975, when the country had just been reunified and was beginning its economic reconstruction. Its first President was Prof. Tran Phuong, former Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam. Its recent activities include providing expert reviews for the draft documents of the Communist Party's 13th and 14th National Congresses, as well as offering insight on green growth strategies, high-speed rail development plans, regional spatial planning, and numerous key economic policy proposals.

Speaking at the celebration, Prof. Dr. Sc. Nguyen Quang Thai, President of VEA, shared that the Association currently boasts over 3,000 members, nearly 20 sub-associations, and 26 local chapters, and 17 central-affiliated research units under its direct management. Meanwhile, the University of Business and Technology has emerged as a leading education institution, training more than 32,000 students across 27 disciplines. Additionally, the Vietnam Economic Times continues to solidify its reputation as one of the most authoritative outlets for economic analysis and commentary.

Since its establishment, the Association has actively contributed to policy consultation, appraisal, and critical analysis of pivotal national issues. Its recent activities include providing expert reviews for the draft documents of the Communist Party's 13th and 14th National Congresses, as well as offering insight on green growth strategies, high-speed rail development plans, regional spatial planning, and numerous key economic policy proposals. Many research works by its members have been published as books and specialized monographs, clearly reflecting their academic rigor and practical relevance.

In his speech at the celebration, Dr. Sc. Phan Xuan Dung, representing the Standing Presidium of VUSTA, acknowledged the significant contributions of VEA to the nation's development. VUSTA takes great pride in counting the Association among its members, with its team of experts and scientists playing a pivotal role in the success of numerous advisory and critical review initiatives led by VUSTA. The Association's contributions span all key areas of socio-economic development. President Phan Xuan Dung also praised its active collaboration as a co-organizer of major forums and seminars in recent years.

During the 50th Anniversary Celebration, VUSTA awarded a Certificate of Merit to VEA and Prof. Dr. Sc. Nguyen Quang Thai, its President, in recognition of the Association’s achievements and its significant contributions to the cause of science and socio-economic development of the country.
