Review workshop the project "Civil society meets renewable energy and energy efficiency”

On July 30, 2021, Green Innovation and Development Centre (GreenID) held a workshop to review the project "Civil society meets renewable energy and energy efficiency” (or E-Enhance) through training courses, workshops, seminars and communication in order to contribute to promoting the implementation of the strategy of sustainable development and green growth in Vietnam”

The project duration is from August 2017 to August 2021, funded by the European Union’s non-refundable ODA, which was approved by the VUSTA at Decision No. 696/QD-LHHVN dated September 8, 2017.

The workshop was held virtually with the participation of 100 delegates from many different hubs at provinces, schools, social organizations. The workshop was attended by the Representative of the European Union in Vietnam, the German Institute for Independent Research on Environmental Issues. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Quang Thao, Vice President of VUSTA gave a welcome speech and co-chaired the workshop.

The project including 4 components, of which the first component "Community communication about sustainable energy” has gained 200 members participated in the 5 basic training courses on renewable energy and 7 core trainers selected and trained. The second one "Communication on the importance of renewable energy and energy efficiency through professional social organizations and media agencies" has coordinated with 03 sustainable energy networks such as Vietnam Sustainable Energy Alliance, Vietnam Climate Action Coalition and Green Community Connection network to continue sharing information through social media channels and advocate and promote sustainable energy solutions at the provincial and national levels.

Component 3 "Promoting the application of renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions in people's lives has installed 8 green solutions for 10 communities in 6 provinces and cities across the country such as Lao Cai, Hanoi, Quang Nam, Dak Lak, Tra Vinh and Ca Mau. The last component "Enhancing energy efficiency in schools through changing students' perceptions, habits and behaviors" has applied the European 50/50 model to design the Green Citizen School model. The program has absorbed participations of represetatives of 14 schools with 14 Green Star clubs established, 30 teachers and 520 members from many provinces across the country such as Lao Cai, Hanoi, Ca Mau, and Quang Tri.

After 4 years of implementation, the project has achieved remarkable results. The project has provided training on sustainable energy development for 60 scientific and technological organizations and civil organizations in Vietnam and selected 07 core trainers, 10 schools with 520 students and teachers directly participate in the Green Citizen School program, 09 communities in 07 provinces across the country with 10,000 direct and indirect beneficiaries; 08 sustainable energy models are applied in communities, etc., those achievements contribute to raising awareness about sustainable energy and energy access for poor and off-grid communities, realizing SDGs - no one is left behind.

At the workshop, the delegates also discussed on proposals for the next phase of the project, focusing on the implementation and replication of specific solutions on integretation of renewable energy and climate change adaptation and environmental protection; as well as Green citizenship programs in order to educate and raise awareness for young people at schools and provinces.

At the workshop, GreenID awarded Letter of Recognition to 6 schools in Hanoi and Da Nang and 7 core teachers, who have participated and made great contributions to the success of the project.
