22nd Midterm meeting of Asean Federation Engineering Organizations

The meeting was held in Bangkok, Thailand from 19 to 21 July and hosted by Engineering Institute of Thailand under His Majesty the King's Patronage.

Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) plays an active role in AFEO midterm meetings as well as annual conferences of AFEO. This time, VUSTA’s delegation headed by Assoc. Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh participated in the meeting.

This 22nd midterm meeting, the host organizes the seminar on enhancing road construction safety and problem solving: road planning with Asian engineers and around 20 sessions of technical groups as well as committees. The midterm meeting aims to update the process of the implementation of action plan 2023 and the preparation of the CAFEO 41 which is expected to take place in November 2023 in Bali, Indonesia. The side events of the meeting with inclusion of various activities. Besides activities of young engineers group, women engineer group, an outstanding activity hosted by the Engineering Institute of Thailand is a technical visit to Submersible Transformer Low Carbon at Siam Square. The workshop introduced submersible transformer low carbon and share experience on green building and smart city.

VUSTA’s delegates joined all activities of the event. In the governing board meeting, VUSTA’s Vice President shared major results of VUSTA’s system in the first 6 months of 2023. Of which 40th anniversary of VUSTA's establishment and development and VUSTA’s head quarter moving to a new building are outstanding activities. In addition, others events such as operation of Vietnam Asean Engineer Registration Council, VUSTA Standing Presidium’s approval of the participation of APEC engineer register, Insititution of Engineers Malaysia and Institution of Engineers Singapore both proposed to have parallel cooperation with VUSTA on promoting engineer training, sharing experience on training program align with APEC and International Engineer standards also are highlighted.

AFEO governing board has approved many proposal, initiatives from technical working groups and committees. Of which belongs to ASEAN Engineer Register Committee on the need of a meeting to review the activity and result of the Committee in order to improve the quality of services provided to ASEAN engineers.

In the year of Indonesia's chairmanship of ASEAN 2023, Institute of Engineer Indonesia, the host of the Conference of AFEO 41, has proposed a number of initiatives for ASEAN technical cooperation focusing on the theme: Igniting Asean's Blue Economy and Green Energy.

One proposal approved by AFEO governing board is to organize series events associated with the theme of ASEAN electric vehicle roadmap and development. This initiative aims to contribute to the realization of ASEAN leader's commitment and vision which declared at G20 summit 2022.

At the AFEO governing board, the Secretariat reported that the Chinese Society of Engineers is interested in cooperation with ASEAN associations on human resources training, AI application, new technology development... AFEO governing board approved the principles of cooperation with non-ASEAN organizations in order to strengthen the cooperation and development opportunities of the AFEO members and ASEAN engineer community.

Over its 40-year history, AFEO continues to expand the scope of its operation, attracting a large number of engineers in the region and over the world.

VUSTA delegation engages with Japanese science and technology partners

VUSTA had a meeting with China Association for Science and Technology
In the evening of November 13th, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA), Vice President of VUSTA Pham Ngoc Linh hosted a working session with the Delegation of the China Association for Science and Technology, led by Mrs. Ni Zhiyu, Head of the Department of Science Popularization, the China Association for Science and Technology.
