Vice President Pham Ngoc Linh attends the 2024 world conference on science literacy

From December 5 to December 7, 2024, the 2024 world conference on science literacy was held in Beijing, China.

At the opening ceremony held at the headquarters of the China Association for Science and Technology, Mr. Wang Gang, President of the China Association for Science and Technology, delivered the opening speech. He emphasized that in the current context of rapidly evolving science and technology and deepening globalization, enhancing science popularization and promoting comprehensive human development is more crucial than ever. Representatives from UNESCO leadership and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations participated in the conference and delivered welcome speeches at the opening ceremony. The Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) was represented by a delegation headed by the Vice President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh.

VUSTA delegation participated in the Preparatory Meeting for establishing an international organization on science literacy

The 2024 World Conference on Science Literacy, themed “Enhance Science Literacy, Empower Joint Development”, was held on December 5 and 6, drawing nearly 400 delegates and guests from 23 countries and 10 international organizations. The conference brought together representatives from research institutes, scientific associations, museums, and universities worldwide, alongside students from universities across China.

The 2024 Conference showcased a vibrant lineup of activities, including a plenary session featuring five compelling keynote speeches, four concurrent thematic workshops, an insightful visit to the China Science and Technology Museum, the 2024 annual forum of the China Science Popularization Center, the 31st theoretical seminar on science popularization, and an engaging dialogue with Kangila Prize-winning scientists. The VUSTA delegation played an active and impactful role, contributing meaningfully to the shared efforts and initiatives of the conference.

As part of the conference, a meeting of the Preparatory Committee for establishing an international organization on science popularization was held, chaired by Mr. Wang Ting, Director of the China Research Institute for Science Popularization (CRISP). The meeting focused on sharing and discussing the strategic plan to implement UNESCO's global era for science for sustainable development and CRISP's White Paper on enhancing global community capacity through science literacy. Representing the VUSTA delegation, Vice President Pham Ngoc Linh, Mr. Le Thanh Tung, Head of the Communication and Science Popularization Department, and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department, participated in the meeting. They shared their perspectives, highly appreciated the science popularization materials prepared by CRISP, and expressed their willingness to collaborate with partners in the field of science popularization.

The World Conference on Science Literacy, initiated by the China Association for Science and Technology, has been held annually since 2018. This conference provides a platform for researchers, scientists, engineers, and delegates to exchange ideas, share practical experiences, propose new initiatives, and create opportunities for collaboration in the field of science popularization.
