Plenary Session Opening of the 24th AFEO Midterm in Da Nang

On August 06, in Da Nang City, the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organization (AFEO) officially opened the plenary session of the 24th AFEO Midterm Conference. The conference is a forum for scientists, engineers, and specialists to share, discuss solutions for structuring a sustainable future for the ASEAN region.

The 24th AFEO Midterm Conference of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organization (AFEO) included a series of meetings and practical activities from August 05 to August 08. The plenary session was attended by Engineer Federico A. Monsada - AFEO President; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh - Vice President of Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) and representatives, engineers of ASEAN Engineering Association.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the plenary session, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh - Vice President of VUSTA said:” We are living in an era with strong development of science, technology and innovation. In this context, sustainability is not only a goal but a common mission for every single engineer, ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organization and all of us. Through discussion, the conference will recommend resolutions to build a sustainable future for the ASEAN region and wider”.

In the series of conferences, AFEO and VUSTA hosted many meetings of specialized engineers such as: Construction Safety, Electronic Safety, Geotechnical, Transportation and Logistics, Environmental Engineering, Energy… AFEO and VUSTA also hosted activities in practice such as: Da Nang beach cleaning activity, engineering tour at Central Power Corporation, Da Nang Museum, Da Nang Smart Monitoring and Operation Center.

Overview of the conference

From the discussion during the series of conferences, scientists, engineers and specialists affirmed a core role of regional cooperation in tackling global challenges such as climate change, energy transformation, digital transformation and sustainable development. Through the discussion, the conference recommended resolutions on creating a sustainable future for the ASEAN region and the global.

The ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organization (AFEO), established in the year of 1982 and recognized in the ASEAN Charter, includes 10 engineering organizations of member states. It aims at developing general engineering industry benchmarks. For four decades since the establishment, AFEO has never stopped thriving. Acting as a bridge between engineers in the region, the AFEO contributes actively in forming an ASEAN region which is cohesive and proactive to adaptation. Since becoming a full member of the AFEO in 1998, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology (VUSTA) has actively implemented initiatives, promoted the ASEAN Professional Engineer Register, enhanced cooperation in engineering and builded talented engineer network in various sectors.

The year 2025 marks the 30th year of Vietnam’s participation in the ASEAN community (July 28 1995 - July 28 2025). During the previous week, leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam held a variety of formal events to celebrate this occasion. The events included the 24th AFEO Midterm Conference, also recognized as one of the meaningful activities to mark the event.

Held annually, the conference serves as a regional forum where scientists, engineers, and experts come together to exchange knowledge and discuss solutions for building a more sustainable future for ASEAN.
VUSTA delegation engages with Japanese science and technology partners
A delegation from the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA), led by Vice President Pham Ngoc Linh, conducted a working visit to the science and technology organizations in Japan from November 17 to 19. Vice President Pham Ngoc Linh attended the ceremony and presented flowers to extend congratulations to Mrs. Khuat Thi Hai Oanh.
