Honoring 123 ASEAN professional engineers

On May 4th in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, Malaysian Institute of Engineers, Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Association, Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Corporation (EVNHCMC) coordinated to organize a ceremony to honor and award certificates and badges of ASEAN professional engineers.

President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) – Dr. Sc. Phan Xuan Dung; Head of the ASEAN Engineers Registration Board - Yau Chau Fong; Vice Chairman of Vietnam Electricity Association - Mai Quoc Hoi; Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Union of Science and Technology Associations - Nguyen Van Phuoc and Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Association - Tran Khiem Tuan together with business leaders and 123 Vietnamese professional engineers participated in the ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman Phan Xuan Dung affirmed that the title of professional engineer in any country is always respected. Because, it is a noble professional title affirming the qualifications, competence and professional ethics of the engineer, recognized by professional association and society. The move towards mutual recognition in the ASEAN region on technical standards and technical services has been decided by the governments of ASEAN countries since 2005, by signing an agreement and establishing a committee to supervise the implementation of the agreement on mutual recognition of technical services (referred to as MC).

In recent years, the training and retraining of human resources according to the criteria of ASEAN professional engineers has been one of the key tasks of enterprises and employees. The ASEAN engineering force in Vietnam has made a very important contribution in innovation activities, applied research and initiatives to improve working efficiency, apply new science and technology to build digital business.

According to EVNHCMC Chairman Pham Quoc Bao, the completion of the ASEAN engineer registration is an opportunity for engineers to be recognized in the international arena and create an open environment to share knowledge, expertise and technology, as well as more potential and opportunities for research and development, driving professional engineering practice to a higher standard.

Mr. Pham Quoc Bao wished the engineers would strongly promote their roles and talents to develop their careers more and more professionally, contributing more effectively to the development of units in the power industry, at the same time care, guide and support other colleagues to strive to be qualified to join the ASEAN engineering community, contribute to the development of Vietnam's electricity industry and the growing ASEAN professional engineer community.

During that process, the Federation of ASEAN Organizations of Engineers (AFEO) has actively contributed to promoting mutual recognition of qualifications and standards of technical workers in the ASEAN region. Therefore, individuals achieving the title of ASEAN professional engineer is a mark in the progress of career development, is the motivation to strive to continue to improve ourselves and to aim for the titles of professional engineers in the Asia-Pacific region.

After being registered, ASEAN engineers will be facilitated by enterprises to participate in international forums and conferences, participate in learning and sharing experiences with international power companies; be sent for advanced training (master, doctoral); to be given priority to access new technologies and participate in science and technology projects and technology transfer.

Engineers receive ASEAN professional engineer certificates and badges

The ASEAN Professional Engineers Registration Council of Vietnam was established in 2006 and is located at the headquarters of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, an active member of AFEO. Up to now, the Council has considered and registered the title of ASEAN professional engineer for 552 Vietnamese engineers, of which 40.3% are engineers in the electricity industry.
