VIFOTEC Awards granted to 47 excellent creations

On the evening of May 30 at the Hanoi Opera House, the Vietnam Fund for Supporting Technological Creations (VIFOTEC, under VUSTA) coordinated with the Ministry of Science & Technology, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and the Central Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to hold the 2023 Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Award (VIFOTEC Award) Ceremony.

Attended honorable guests were Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, Minister of Science & Technology Huynh Thanh Dat, Chairman Le Quang Huy of the National Assembly's Committee on Science, Technology and Environment, President Chau Van Minh of the Vietnam Academy of Science & Technology, Chairman Nguyen Dinh Khang of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and Chairman Phan Xuan Dung of VUSTA and VIFOTEC Foundation. Other guests included representatives of central and local ministries, departments and branches, alongside creators and co-creators attending to receive their awards.

According to the Deputy PM’s assessment at the ceremony, handing out VIFOTEC Awards is a meaningful activity that helps promote development of Vietnamese science & technology, encouraging science and intellectual workers alike to research, innovate and create timely solutions for practical problems, thereby contributing to socio-economic development and ensuring Vietnam’s national security.

After 28 ceremonies from 1995 to now, the Awards have gradually affirmed their reputation in the field of scientific and technical innovation and are highly appreciated by both Vietnamese scientists and international partners—a testament to the talent, intelligence and creativity of Vietnamese people in all fields.

In congratulating the award-winning scientists and creators, the Deputy PM expressed his hope that the research and creativity behind their works will be applied to create valuable products that contribute to socio-economic development and national security, all the while successfully implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party.

The Deputy PM asked VUSTA, VIFOTEC Fund and all parties present to further analyze the resolutions of the Party Central Committee on governmental decisions and guides for relevant departments and branches to continue to synchronously implement solutions, striving for further scientific and technological development.

According to VUSTA and VIFOTEC Chairman Phan Xuan Dung, over the past 28 years, the VIFOTEC Awards have drawn much success, enjoying the active participation of many Vietnamese scientists and scholars. Thousands of Award-winning scientific works have made great contributions to the noble cause of developing and protecting the country.

VUSTA and VIFOTEC Fund have become reliable sources for scientists and creatives, prestigious partners in introducing young talents and also important bridges connecting Vietnamese science and technology to that of the world.

The results achieved by the 2023 VIFOTEC Awards are a continuation of previous years’ achievements, an important foundation to create momentum in the new era. Chairman Phan Xuan Dung hopes the Awards will continue to not only build passion for scientific research and technological development in any and every citizen, but also inspire creativity in the young generation.

At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee awarded the 2023 VIFOTEC Awards to 47 projects, including 4 first prizes, 10 second prizes, 16 third prizes and 17 consolation prizes,

In particular, the first prize for mechanical automation belongs to the "Research, design, and manufacture of inertial navigation system for naval ships using fiber optic sensor technology" project by Col./Assoc. Prof. Trinh Dang Khanh, PhD., Lt. Col. Nguyen Dinh Tinh, PhD., Maj./MSc/Prof. Pham Van Hung and their associates from the Departments of Radioelectronics, the Military Technical Academy and the Ministry of National Defense.

The first prize for energy saving/alternative energy belongs to the "Application of ultra-fine dry grinding technology to produce high-quality, ultra-thin, energy-saving bricks and tiles" project by labor hero Nguyen Quang Mau, labor hero and MSc. Nguyen Duy Tan and Nguyen Van Thanh of Dat Viet Ceramics Import and Export Business Joint Stock Company.

The first prize for material technology belongs to the "Technology research and construction of an unsaturated polyester resin factory with a capacity of 25,000 tons/year to produce quartz-based artificial stones" project by Assoc. Prof./Dr. Ho Xuan Nang, Prof. Tran Vinh Dieu, ScD., and their associates from A&A Green Phoenix Group Joint Stock Company (Phenikaa).

The first prize for life and production biotechnology belongs to the "Hybrid robusta coffee variety TRS1" project by Dinh Thi Tieu Oanh, Tran Vinh, PhD., Nguyen Thi Thanh Mai, MSc., and their associates from the Central Highlands Institute of Agricultural and Forestry Science-Technology.

Most notably, the two projects that won first prize for energy saving/alternative energy and material technology were awarded the 2023 WIPO Award by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
