VUSTA President Welcomes Chief Representative of JINED in Vietnam Takeshi Makigami

On July 8, at the VUSTA premises, VUSTA President Phan Xuan Dung welcomed the JINED delegation (International Nuclear Energy Development of Japan Co., Ltd) led by Mr. Takeshi Makigami - CEO and Chief Representative of JINED in Vietnam.

Also welcoming were Mr. Pham Huu Due - Head of the Organization and Personnel Department and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen - Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department of VUSTA.

At the meeting, on behalf of VUSTA leaders, Sc.D. Phan Xuan Dung welcomed and thanked Mr. Takeshi Makigami and the delegation for visiting VUSTA. He also congratulated Mr. Takeshi Makigami on taking on the CEO and Chief Representative role of JINED in Vietnam and wished him much success in his new position.

Mr. Takeshi Makigami thanked the VUSTA president for welcoming the delegation and providing an update on JINED's recent activities. He mentioned that JINED has been involved in various cooperation programs in Vietnam, including a human resource training program with the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (under the Ministry of Science and Technology) and EVN. Additionally, JINED has organized seminars on nuclear regulations in collaboration with the Vietnam Agency for Radiation and Nuclear Safety and conducted training courses on nuclear power plant technology for students at Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Mr. Takeshi Makigami confirmed that JINED has always endeavored to support Vietnam in training personnel in atomic energy. In the current global crisis, Japan has reverted to developing nuclear power to meet the demand and ensure the implementation of policies aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. JINED seeks opportunities to collaborate with Vietnam organizations, including VUSTA, in this field.

VUSTA President Phan Xuan Dung has expressed high appreciation for the recent efforts of JINED in Vietnam. He mentioned that the Vietnamese government and its leaders have consistently shown great interest in the field of atomic energy and the use of nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. There has always been a strong emphasis on international cooperation and support in this area. Vietnam is also working towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

VUSTA is an organization representing Vietnam's science and technology intellectuals, assigned by the Vietnam Communist Party and the Government to provide the Party and State with advice on major issues related to guidelines and policies for national development, especially in science and technology; Conduct consultancy, judgment, and social expertise to contribute to building scientific ground for the formulation and implementation of the Party’s guidelines and directions and State’s policies and laws; Conduct scientific research and technological development, transfer of scientific and technological advances into production and life, environmental protection, and response to global climate change.

VUSTA President Phan Xuan Dung welcomed the cooperation proposal from JINED and expressed hope that the two sides would progress in the future. Initial steps will involve organizing seminars on the transfer of science and technology on atomic energy. He confirmed that VUSTA is willing to introduce and connect experts and share information about JINED with its members to promote multilateral collaboration between VUSTA and JINED. This collaboration would contribute to the effective implementation of the Government Agreement between Vietnam and Japan on cooperation in developing and using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
