Kon Tum: An English – Vietnamese biligual digital publication on Ba Na culture

This is the creation of Le Cong Danh and Nguyen Tran Thuc Quyen - 9th grade students, Lien Viet Kon Tum Lower and Higher Secondary School. This product set won the second prize of the 14th Provincial Youth and Children's Creative Contest in 2022, and was selected to participate in the 18th National Youth and Children's Creative Contest in 202 -2022.

According to Le Cong Danh "The purpose of this is to create a set of learning products to help high school students learn and study well the subject of "Local Education" in the direction of experience and exploration. The product is bilingual English – Vietnamese and interdisciplinary. In addition, students can use the toolkit to promote unique features of the Ba Na people in daily and spiritual life to domestic and international friends”.

“It took us more than 8 months to carry out theoretical and practical research; collect information sources through research articles published in newspapers, magazines, on mass media as well as published scientific works on Ba Na culture in Kon Tum; conduct practical observations on cultural features of the Ba Na people in the area; and at the same time, survey and collect information on the understanding of Ba Na culture among high school students in Kon Tum” - Nguyen Tran Thuc Quyen said.

The product set includes 8 categories, which are digital products and real products, including: Youtube channel posting videos about Ba Na ethnic culture; Set of QR codes to encode videos for inclusion in products; Bilingual English - Vietnamese publications; Posters for learning and promotion; Set of learning game cards; Set of digital devices for learning local educational topics; Cultural promotional products and red envelopes (li xi).

Le Cong Danh shared: “The set of English-Vietnamese bilingual publications includes both hard and electronic versions. These are articles written by our own knowledge and from observations, collected through the stories of village elders and experts on Ba Na culture. We have systematized in Vietnamese, and also translated into English with the edition of subject teachers in the school. The content of this publication is attached to the content in the video series and is printed with a QR code so that students can use the device to scan the QR code linked to watch the corresponding video.

According to Ms. Nguyen Van Nam- Judge of the 14th Kon Tum Youth-Children Creative Contest “The set of two English-Vietnamese bilingual digital publications on Ba Na culture in Kon Tum by Le Cong Danh and Nguyen Tran Thuc Quyen possesses novelty and creativity. They have formed a Youtube channel to promote digital products by video; create a set of QR codes to encode video products to facilitate search; The bilingual use of English - Vietnamese helps international friends better understand Ba Na ethnic culture. The product set has brought "Message of Spring 4.0" with the meaning of promotion and bringing loving gifts to orphans, thereby helping to preserve and promote the beauty of Ba Na ethnic culture to in and out-country students.

“In order to bring products to social life, in the future, we will continue to study other cultural fields of the Ba Na people as well as other ethnic minorities living in Kon Tum province to enrich the product set; translating the contents into Ba Na language so that Ba Na students can understand more about their culture. At the same time, we will build and develop an online forum for high school students to share knowledge, ideas, feelings and experiences of discovering local culture in general and Ba Na culture in particular." - Nguyen Tran Thuc Quyen said.
