Kon Tum: Training on Sustainable Durian Farming
On May 23, in Sa Thay district, the Kon Tum Union of Science and Technology Associations coordinated with the Provincial Agriculture and Rural Development Department and Sa Thay District People's Committee to organize a workshop on "sustainable durian farming techniques".
Attending the training were representatives of leaders of specialized departments, communes, towns, agricultural extension officers, and 30 farmer households in Sa Thay district.
Durian is a strategic crop that is receiving a lot of attention today because of its high economic value, contributing to increasing income and improving people's lives not only in Kon Tum province but also in many other localities across the country.
One of the things durian farmers are most concerned about is how to ensure successful flowering and fruiting, which requires farmers to master farming techniques; including nutrition and disease management on crops. It is also necessary to control the amount of irrigation water appropriately. In addition, the development of production unit codes and good management of quality and pesticide residues also play an important role in promoting durian exports, meeting market requirements, and ensuring a high income for people.
Cognizant of this, organizations have deployed guidelines for sustainable durian farming along with a series of workshops on advanced farming techniques and the correct, safe, and responsible use of pesticides for durian farmers in Sa Thay district.
Through the workshop aimed at contributing to change the mindset and practices, farmers are encouraged to transition from traditional farming methods to sustainable practices. This includes soil improvement and creating environmental conditions facilitating the growth of durian trees, ultimately leading to higher economic efficiency for farmers.
