Phu Yen Province: “Disinfection warning model” won the first prize in the competition

The model “Outdoor Disinfection Warning System” in the field of Environmentally Friendly Products created by student Nguyen Nhu Quynh, Class 9A of Luong The Vinh Secondary School - Tuy Hoa City (the school year of 2021-2022) won the first prize of the 7th National Youth and Children Innovation Challenge in 2021-2022. The Contest has contributed to promoting the movement of technical innovation in

Other 69 solution models have entered the final round of the 7th National Youth and Children Innovation Challenge, Phu Yen Province (2021-2022) and 31/69 models won a number of prizes. Particularly, the model “Outdoor Disinfection Warning System” won the first prize - this is the honor of the school on the first day of the new school year! Mr. Huynh Thuc Tien - Principal of Luong The Vinh Secondary School expressed.

Toward the community

Nguyen Nhu Quynh said “Washing hands with disinfectant (disinfection) is a simple work that everyone should do to prevent the Covid-19 pandemic, but not everyone remembers and does it regularly, especially when going out and coming back home. To help people remember to wash their hands before entering their house, I have studied available types of disinfectant products, and through research with the help of my instructor, I boldly create the model “Outdoor Disinfection Warning System” and bring it to this Contest.

Mr. Bui Thanh Danh (40 years old), Physics teacher at Luong The Vinh Secondary School, who has supported Nguyen Nhu Quynh to create the model shared that the current situation of the Covid-19 pandemic has been temporarily cooled down, but the risk of unsafe disease prevention still exists. When Nguyen Nhu Quynh proposed the model to me, I supported and accompanied with Nhu Quynh to complete the product to participate in the 7th Contest launched by the People's Committee of Phu Yen Province”.

It is known that before registering to participate in the 7th National Youth and Children Innovation Challenge, Nguyen Nhu Quynh brought her model to Luong The Vinh Secondary School to demonstrate and operate so that all students of the school could apply it effectively. In addition, the model was tested in several families in Phu Yen Province, such as the families of Mr. Nguyen Trung Thoai (No. 03/67- Pham Ngoc Thach Street, Ward 9, Tuy Hoa City); Le Thi Kim Anh (No. 51, Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, Ward 9, Tuy Hoa City) or Nguyen Thi Thanh Tuyen (My Thuan Village, Hoa Dong Commune, Tay Hoa District). Everyone assessed that the model is very useful in assuring public health.

Accordingly, Nguyen Nhu Quynh asserted that “In addition to the function of disinfectant spraying, the model also has a warning system to help students, in particular, and people, in general, remember to wash their hands before entering the house”.

Technical creativity of the model

Based on the explanation of Nguyen Nhu Quynh in front of the Board of Examiners at the final round of the 7th National Youth and Children Innovation Challenge, held at Phu Yen Union of Science and Technology Associations (August 30th, 2022), the model makes use of materials of different products such as disinfectant solution container (capacity of 500ml), solution and liquid pump motor, mist nozzle; 5V battery; electrical circuits; touch switches (used to switch off the source of human sensor - Sensor 2, Circuits of MP3 transmitter and speaker of hand sanitizer sensor (Infrared sensor V1), working distance from 2 - 30cm, that can be adjusted by dedicated rheostat); memory card and so on.

Regarding the operation principle, Nguyen Nhu Quynh said “When the hand sanitizer sensor detects first, it means that when people enter the house but forget to disinfect their hands, the Sensor 1 will transmit a signal to the controller, and the information processing and signal transmission processor will activate the motor to spray the disinfectant mist. At the same time, the controller will turn off the power supply (human sensor – Sensor 2, Circuits of MP3 transmitter and speaker), the system does not issue a warning sound (it means that people entering the house have disinfected their hands). After 10 seconds, the controller will turn on the power supply again (Sensor 2, transmitter circuit and speaker). Based on the actual conditions, the above period can be set long or short.

If the Sensor 2 (human sensor) detects that the person entering the house without washing their hands, the Sensor 2 will transmit a signal to the controller, the information processing and signal transmission processor will active the circuits (Circuits of MP3 transmitter and speaker) to play the voice “Please disinfect your hands” continuously until the person entering the house has disinfected their hands, then the circuits (Circuits of MP3 transmitter and speaker) will stop working. After 10 seconds, the controller will turn on the power supply again (Circuits of MP3 transmitter and speaker) to execute the next cycle. The working duration of the system is a week long with a DC battery, voltage of 5VDC and can be recharged, and the charging time is 3.5 hours”. She also confirmed that “The model is compact, flexible, and stable, and has a long service life; with low cost, easy to install, easy to find replaceable parts; with high reliability and applicability, this solution can be applied nationwide”.

Ph.D. Bui Ngoc Dinh, a lecturer atTheCentral College of Industry and Trade, a member of the Board of Examiners commented that “This solution contributes to the safety of people. Therefore, in addition to scientific meaning, the solution also has many humane meanings”.

According to the President of Phu Yen Union of Science and Technology Associations, Head of the Organizing Committee, Chairman of the Board of Examiners of the 7th Contest (2021-2022) -  Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa “Outdoor Disinfection Warning System” of Nguyen Nhu Quynh, Class 9A of Luong The Vinh Secondary School won the first prize of the 7th contest, showed that the quality of models has received attention and investment of organizations/units. Hopefully that the next contest will receive more models and solutions with high technical content and practical impact in life”.
