Two school students invented automatic hand washing equipment

To the complex of the Covid-19 pandemic, Nguyen Thanh Loc and Nguyen Nguyen Duc, Class 9A students of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School, Pleikan township have invented "Automatic hand washing equipment" which won the prize at the provincial and district science competition for the academic year 2020-2021.

The initiative and the whole process of ideation and installation was accomplished over a month under the guidance of homeroom teachers. The product works by solar energy, and it is installed based on the frame of the damaged desk, shaped like a house that protects the equipment inside from rain and sunlight.

The device has 3 compartments, the first is for washing hands with dry solution, the middle is a device for drying hands after washing and the other is for washing hands with soap and clean water. The device works thanks to the sensor, which automatically switches the circuit. When someone comes, the device will recognize and play a prompt recorded in the USB plugged directly into the loudspeaker. Depending on the specific needs, users can choose to wash their hands with dry solution or clean water. The entire cost to finish the product is more than 4 million VND from the savings of such two students and the support amount from their school.

Sharing about their initiative, Duc said, realizing that the epidemic was becoming more and more complicated, he and Loc discussed ideas to invent an automatic hand washing device. Through the actual survey, they found that in many places, it is very inconvenient to hold a bottle of solution to wash hands, and there is still a risk of bacteria spreading. Therefore, after much discussion, they decided to invent an automatic hand washing device to minimize the handling and grasping of bottles of hand sanitizer.

“Before starting, we expected the cost to complete the product at 3.5 million VND. However, the school has supported the desk frame, 25cm x 35cm solar panels with a capacity of 35W. Therefore, each of us only needs to contribute VND 750,000 to buy other components such as sensing circuits, 12V loudspeaker, 6V water pump, 12V small fan, electrical wires, and switches,” said Loc.

After 2 months of researching and assembling, Thanh Loc and Nguyen Duc's automatic hand washing device won the second prize of the Provincial Science and Technology Innovation Contest in 2020-2021. Sharing with us, Mr. Phan Van Tuan, Principal of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School said: Realizing that the product has high applicability and practicality during the outbreak of the epidemic again, the school decided to set up the device at the entrance for teachers and students to wash their hands before entering class.

The initiative "Automatic hand washing equipment" to prevent Covid-19 disease by two students, Nguyen Thanh Loc and Nguyen Nguyen Duc, students of Class 9A, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School, Pleikan Town won the first prize in the district science and technology contest for the academic year 2020-2021 organized by the Office of Education and Training and won the second prize in the provincial science and technology contest in the academic year 2020-2021 organized by the provincial Department of Education and Training.
