Smart city - The inevitable trend of modern society

On April 13, in Ho Chi Minh City workshop "Vietnam Smart City Strategy - Achievements and Challenges” was organized by multi agencies and organizations.

With the collaboration of 4 organizations including Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA); Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Vietnam Automation Association; Vietnam Institute of Digital Innovation and Transformation, the workshop held successfully.

Mr. Phan Van Mai, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; Mr. Phan Xuan Dung, Secretary of the Party Union, Chairman of VUSTA; Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council; Former Minister of Science and Technology, Chairman of Vietnam Automation Association Nguyen Quan; Director of Vietnam Institute of Digital Innovation and Transformation Nguyen Thi Bich Lan... and more than 100 delegates from the regional countries and Vietnam attended the workshop.

Speaking for the opening of workshop, President of Vietnam Union of Associations, Dr.Sc. Phan Xuan Dung emphasized: Smart city development is an inevitable trend in a developed society which is transforming itself towards the trend of digital society. Our Party and State paid a great attention to the national digital transformation process with building smart cities. VUSTA with many scientific and technological intellectuals, greatly focused on directing member organizations and scientists throughout the system to organize events, contribute scientific ideas to digital transformation, urban development planning, digital economy development.

The experts talked about Vietnam Smart City Strategy – Achievements and challenges.

At the workshop, the topics and reports were presented around the ones of connecting smart cities with smart rural areas; Blockchain technology for platform solutions; information security and security in smart city development; application of technology in management of smart buildings, houses and apartments; Environmental treatment solutions, smart waste, digitwin – metaverse applications in production management, urban planning and public administration …

Ass Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Deputy Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, former Chairman of Hai Phong City presented the topic on building and developing smart cities to ensure security, welfare and safety indicators in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The topic addressed the concept of smart cities; reason for building smart cities in dramatic transformation era with the rapid outbreak of the Fourth Industrial Revolution; smart city contents; adaptation indicator tool to manage and evaluate international smart cities.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quan – Chairman of Vietnam Automation Association, we shall have data to be smart; otherwise, we fail. The construction of a database system is a premise and the first step to build smart cities. Digital society is also made up of databases.

Foreign business delegates also shared about solutions for smart cities; smart building management solutions; technology and solutions for smart factories; smart management tools, etc.
