- Pilot implementation of the local innovation indicators
According to the Academy of Science, Technology and Innovation, the set of indicators should include measures that reflect policies, human resources, etc., appropriate for each province. The pilot implementation of a set of local innovation indicators (PII) is a task assigned by the Government to the Ministry of Science and Technology. Over the past time, the Academy of Science, Technology and Innovation has coordinated with units under the Ministry of Science and Technology to develop an index framework and guide localities to collect data to serve the pilot evaluation of this set of indicators. 2022 is the first year that the Ministry of Science and Technology has implemented and piloted with 20 provinces in order to draw lesson learned then perfect the methods of implementation and assessment of the impact of the index on localities. The framework of the PII index includes 51 indicators, of which 15 will take data from localities; 36 indicators draw data from ministries and other central agencies. Departments of Science and Technology are the focal point for collecting and synthesizing local data. The PII index provided by the locality includes institutional indicators; education; the infrastructure; credit; innovation links; S&T enterprises, innovative start-ups; knowledge, innovation and technology products; impact of innovation on socio-economic development.

- Mastering CRISPR/cas9 gene editing technology
One of the most damaging diseases on papaya is being thoroughly solved by scientists at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology with gene editing technology through the CRISPR/Cas9 system. Since its discovery in 1987, CRISPR/Cas has been widely applied to various research subjects such as microorganisms, plants, animals and even human cells. The Plant Cell Technology Research Group at the Institute of Biotechnology under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology said that it had conducted the first study on editing the PRSV virus-resistant eIF4E gene on papaya using CRISPR/Cas9 technology. The results of the initial study on papaya gene editing have just been published in the journal Plant Cell Tissue and Organ Cultures (Spring Nature Publishing House). Previously, to test the effectiveness of the gene editing system, the team worked on editing the eIF4E gene in a tobacco model plant to evaluate PYV virus resistance. The study was also published in the journal Scientific Reports (under Nature Publishing) in August 2022. Currently, the team continues to develop CRISPR/Cas9 technology in improving resistance to powdery mildew on soybean and cucumber; enhance salt tolerance or nutritional deficiencies of rice; improve the nutritional value of tomatoes...

- Awarding the VinFuture Award in 2022
On the evening of December 20, the second VinFuture Award ceremony took place at the Hanoi Opera House. Five scientists who invent and develop global network technology are the owners of the main prize, worth $3 million of the 2022 VinFuture Prize, for what they created has forever changed the way we live, communicate and work. In the first season of 2021, the winning work is the mRNA vaccine, born from two studies, mRNA technology and lipid nanoparticles. This year, the top award-winning work is the result of many inventions related to the global network. VinFuture evaluates studies comprehensively, in a multidimensional relationship. Many studies may forever go unnoticed or have little application when alone, but if they are brought together, breakthroughs can happen. A different "prism" helps VinFuture find works that can benefit millions of people around the world. This makes the VinFuture Award special compared to any other awards.
