Digital transformation and green transformation for sustainable development

On 30 September, the forum Digital transformation, green transformation for sustainable development took place at 2 floor, Quang Ninh Exhibition of Planning and Expo Center.

The forum is one of side event in the framework of Techconnect and Innovation Vietnam 2023 which was co-organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and Quang Ninh People’s Committee and implemented by the State Agency for Technology Innovation and Quang Ninh Department of Science and Technology

Overview of the forum

Attending the event were alternative member of the Party Central Committee – Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy, Deputy Secrectary of the Quang Ninh provincial Party Committee Dang Xuan Phuong, Vice President of Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations Pham Ngoc Linh, Director of State Agency for Technology Innovation Nguyen Mai Duong. The forum also attracted a vairous participants from departments, agencies in Quang Ninh province; organizations, institutes, universities, professional associations; domestic and international businesses; representatives of Vietnam innovation network and innovation network in other countries; experts, researchers, international organizations of science, technology and innovation and especially speakers.

On his opening speech, Bui The Duy said that digital transformation and green transformation is an inevitable development trend. Of course, this includes opportunities and challenges for the Vietnamese business community. In 2022, the Government issued Decision No 569 on national strategy of scentific and technological development and innovation untill 2030 with perspective of scentific and technological development and innovation is top national policy

According to Duy, green transformation is not just towards environment protection but also changing production and business process in order to improve operational efficiency. The second goal of green transformation is to reduce carbon emissions towards green, circular economy. Duy hoped that speakers of the forum would focus on discussing policy implementation and clarifying support programs of facilitating digital transformation and green transformation in order to shorten industrialization and modernization process of the country in the new context and especially proposing supportive solutions for sectors associated with green transformation,

In fact, we have witnessed a number of enterprises standing on pinnacle of success, if they don’t pay attention to innovation they might fail. I expect solutions on green transformation and digital transformation as well as supportive programs for Vietnam in next stage, said Duy. He also hoped the forum would create cross links, technology transfer among universities, institutes and provinces.

Digital transformation and green transformation for sustainable development focuses on policy implementation, supportive solutions for green transformation and digital transformation for Vietnamese enterprises. Within the framework of the forum, scientists, domestic and international organizations share and receive information of innovation programs aiming at comprehensive and effective green transformation and digital transformation for Vietnamese enterprises.

Session 1: Lesson learned and commitment for supporting Vietnam in green transformation toward sustainable development. Prof, Dr. Nguyen Van Phuoc, President of Ho Chi Minh City Union of Science and Technology Associations, member of Presidium of VUSTA was a keynote speaker report on facilitating green transformation and digital transformation to shorten industrialization and modernization process of the country in the new context, proposing supportive mechanisms for sectors associated with green transformation. The following speakers were presentation of Horizon Europe ASEAN on facilitating international cooperation program on general research and innovation of Horizon Europe for Vietnam, representative of International Financial Corporation shared about green finance for sustainable development

Session 2: Solutions for comprehensive digital transformation for enterprises. A leading enterprise in digital transformation Rang Dong company presented solutions, process and lesson learned in its digital transformation. This session also attracted presentations of VNPT, 1office, BASE, SIEMENS Vietnam on their digital transformation solutions.

Within the forum, there were 8 memorandums of understanding among partners have been signed and given in the presence of Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy, Deputy Secrectary of the Quang Ninh provincial Party Committee Dang Xuan Phuong, Vice President of Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations Pham Ngoc Linh, Director of State Agency for Technology Innovation Nguyen Mai Duong.

8 MoUs signed at the forum

Green transformation and digital transformation are vital issue that requires enterprises to take action for their deeper integration in the domestic and international markets. In free trade agreements, especially the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership and EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership… that require strict criteria of green and sustainable development and the establishment of units associated with digital transformation.
