Promote science and technology for a prosperous and sustainable Vietnam

With the outbreak of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, one of the important tasks for socio-economic development is to promote science, technology and innovation to create breakthroughs in improving productivity, quality, efficiency and competitiveness of the economy.

The Techconnect and Innovation Vietnam 2023 was launched in Ha Long city, the northeastern province of Quang Ninh on September 29, drawing nearly 1,000 delegates from businesses and experts inside and outside the country. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the provincial People’s Committee, the event will take the theme “Innovation - Sustainable Development”, featuring around 200 exhibition booths and five technology demonstration areas.

Overview of the event

The event welcomed the Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister - Tran Luu Quang, Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Science and Technology - Huynh Thanh Dat; Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Quang Ninh province - Nguyen Xuan Ky; Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations - Dr. Phan Xuan Dung; Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology - Bui The Duy; Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Acting Chairman of Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee - Cao Tuong Huy.

Delegates from domestic and international ministries, sectors, localities, enterprises, organisations, institutes, experts, strategic partners, sponsors and media cooperation, journalists and reporters at press agencies to attend the technology event.

Originated from the orientation of the Party and State as well as awareness of the importance of cooperation and investment in the field of science and technology, since 2011, Ministry of Science and Technology holds annual Techdemo event, which was renamed as Techconnect and Innovation Vietnam. Over 11 years of implementation, it has seeked and provided 2.300 domestic and abroad technology sources of supply, 300 expert profiles based on the need of enterprises, organizations and individuals, localities and economic regions and involving domestic and foreign partners. It also selected to demonstrate and introduce at the annual event around 3000 procedures, technologies, equipments and products of thousand institutes, universities, enterprises and organizations; promote technology transfer.

Speaking at the opening of the event, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat emphasized the importance of developing science, technology and innovation which are key to Vietnam's rapid and sustainable development. The event plays a role of promoting the technology prompt application in production and daily life to serve economic and social development. Over the years, strategy on science, technology and innovation on having in place progressive and innovative regulations that foster the development of various industries and fields as well as localities.

The Ministry of Science and Technology engaging with other ministries and agencies has created a synchronous legal corridor, mechanisms and policies for the development of science, technology and innovation; promoted the development of intermediary institutions in order to connect, promote application, technology transfer and innovation for enterprises. Besides improving the competitiveness of products made by businesses, the event also creates conditions for scientists to apply their results to production and businessenterprise-centred innovation system to connect innovation to manufacture and production.

Secretary of the Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Quang Ninh province - Nguyen Xuan Ky said that the locality's pillars are nature, people and culture, and has the goal of developing into a model province as well as an economic hub of the country where technology and innovation would help generate high labor productivity and breakthroughs in economic and social growth. Quang Ninh is a heading province in development and application of science and technology and innovation. So that, Quang Ninh is selected as the destination of the event Techconnect 2023 that affirms the province’s efforts in the realization the goals of digital and green transformation for sustainable development.

Mr Nguyen Xuan Ky emphasized that Quang Ninh gains the breakthrough through technology. It has transitioned from a brown to a green growth model, effectively developed its potential and infrastructure, fostered regional and intra-regional economies in tandem with cultural advancement. He looked forward to getting more projects, solutions and innovative ideas that are ready to be used practically to help enterprises.

The representatives of enterprises and agencies such as the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company (Thaco), the Vietnam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology shared the key factors in promoting the process of research, application, connect and transfer technology. Presentations of domestic and foreign enterprises highlighted the role of the digital transformation and scientific and technological development which requires a consistent action in all fields and in the nationwide. So that the efforts should not only originate from organizations, enterprises, individuals but also the authority’s cooperation and consensus from central to locality.

One of the top goals of the Techconnect and Innovation Vietnam 2023 event is to create an environment for connection, cooperation and technology transfer between domestic and international organizations, businesses and individuals. To continue to realize that goal, this year's program has recognized connection of 8 memorandums of understanding among state management agencies, institutes, universities as well as domestic and foreign businesses.

Techconnect and Innovation Vietnam 2023 brings opportunities to connect and transfer technology for businesses. Businesses introduces new technology trends, new products and bridge technology supply and demand based on the needs of localities and economic regions with domestic and foreign partners serving application and transfer technological innovation in Vietnam. The journey of finding breakthroughs in research, application and connection of technology certainly faces many potential challenges that requires pioneering enterprises play an extremely important role in laying the foundation for the overall development of the industry.
