The 28th Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards

The Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards were held to annually honor the practical applications of scientific research by Vietnamese scientists. Over the past 28 years, nearly 3,000 projects have participated, with more than 900 projects receiving awards.

On the evening of May 31st, at the Hanoi Opera House, the VIFOTEC Fund, a member of Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, organized the closing ceremony and presentation of the 28th Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards and the WIPO Awards for 2022.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Party Central Committee Secretary and Head of the Central Committee's Propaganda Department, and Le Quang Huy, Party Central Committee Member and Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Science, Technology, and Environment, attended the event and presented awards to the winning authors.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Sc. Phan Xuan Dung, President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and VIFOTEC Fund, and Head of the Awards Organizing Committee, stated that over the past 28 years, the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards have attracted active participation from numerous scientists throughout the country. Thousands of research projects and scientific applications have been implemented in various economic, social, security, and defense fields, making increasingly significant contributions to the nation's innovation endeavors.

At the opening of the ceremony, Mr. Phan Xuan Dung, President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, delivered a speech.

With its role and significant contributions, at the closing ceremony and presentation of the 2021 Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the VIFOTEC Fund held in late October 2022, Mr. Vương Đình Huệ, member of the Politburo and Chairman of the National Assembly, highly appreciated the activities of the VIFOTEC Fund and provided important directions, particularly focusing on improving the quality and reputation of the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards.

President Phan Xuan Dung emphasized that the achievements of the 2022 awards are a continuation of the results from previous editions and will serve as an important foundation for the new phase. The Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards are gradually establishing their reputation in the field of scientific and technological innovation, contributing to encouraging the research and innovation movement in science and technology nationwide.

At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee of the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards presented Certificates of Merit to the teams and individuals.

Among the 43 selected projects, there were 4 First Prizes, 9 Second Prizes, 15 Third Prizes, and 15 Encouragement Prizes. The awards were given to 6 groups of fields, including automation and mechanical engineering (9), materials (6), information technology - electronics - telecommunications (5), biotechnology (6), climate change adaptation technology (10), and energy saving and renewable energy (7). The awarded projects have contributed to improving socio-economic efficiency, promoting the production of enterprises, increasing productivity, quality, and cost reduction of products, replacing imports, and creating a technology market to serve the daily life, security, and national defense.

Authors who won Encouragement Prize - Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards, 28th edition

On this occasion, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor presents the Certificate of Creative Labor to the authors who are the leaders and co-leaders of the projects winning the First Prize, the leader of the projects winning the Second and Third Prizes. The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union presents the Certificate of Commendation and the Creative Youth Badge to the authors of the projects winning the First, Second, and Third Prizes, who are young individuals.

Notably, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has awarded the WIPO Prize to two outstanding projects: the project "Improvement of the structure of biodegradable PET plastic to enhance the efficiency of wastewater treatment in the beverage industry" and the project "Research, design, and manufacturing of a continuous non-oil frying system for processing fried snack products from Vietnamese aquaculture sources".

In the launching of the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards 2023, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Giang, expresses confidence that the awards will continue to receive enthusiastic support and participation from scientists, experts, researchers, and passionate individuals across the country. Over the years, the VIFOTEC Fund and relevant ministries and sectors have organized the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards, honoring numerous exemplary projects. Many award-winning projects have been successfully applied in practice, contributing to overcoming difficulties in various aspects of social life.

"To implement Resolution 36/NQ-TW dated January 30, 2023, of the Politburo on the development and application of biotechnology for sustainable national development in the new situation, the Organizing Committee is studying the revision, supplementation, and expansion of the scope of biotechnology in the hope of providing scientists with more opportunities to participate in the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards,"he emphasized.
