VIFOTEC Fund - 30 years of establishment and development
After 3 decades of establishment and development, the Vietnam Fund for Technical Innovation Support (VIFOTEC) and personally the Standing Vice Chairman of the Sponsoring Council of VIFOTEC Fund Le Xuan Thao was honored to receive the First Class Labor Medal.
With it has many contributions to the science and technology industry of the country, contributing to the industrialization and modernization of the country.

Fostering scientific works
To implement the Party's renewal policy, to carry out the teachings of the beloved Uncle Ho, "Innovation and experience are the common treasures of the whole nation, we must make every effort to make it more abundant and widespread", in 1992, the VIFOTEC Foundation was established.
Over 30 years of establishment and development, VIFOTEC Fund has operated in accordance with the principles and purposes set forth: Supporting scientific and technological creative subjects throughout the country via the organization of Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards; National Technical Innovation Contest; National Youth and Children's Creative Competition; honor intellectuals, making important contributions to the performance of tasks assigned by the Party and State.
Up to now, VIFOTEC Foundation has successfully organized 27 times the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Award; 16 times National Technical Innovation Contest; 17 times the National Youth and Children's Creative Contest. Especially, since the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 165/2006/QD-TTg (July 14, 2006) approving the organization of the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Award, national-wide competitions and contests, assigning the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and the Union of Science and Technology Associations of provinces and cities to organize them into two levels is a breakthrough step of creative movement, basically solved the problem of budget for the local and the central.
Focusing on the key areas of science and technology of the State, by giving awards, organizing contests and competitions, Vietnamese scientists and innovators have effectively applied thousands of innovations and inventions. production and life, saving thousands of billions of dong, has great significance for socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security. For example, Professor Huynh Phuong Lien with the project "Improving production technology and evaluating the effectiveness of Japanese encephalitis vaccine"; Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Van with the project "Production technology and efficiency of HBsAg micro-Elisa diagnostic biological kit and hepatitis B vaccine", or the project "Application of production and processing technology" Fito product - Biomix RR treats rice straw in the field into organic fertilizer for plants, in order to protect the environment” by Dr. Le Van Tri; the project "Technology, products, technical solutions, establishment measures for embankment protection of Hoan Kiem lake" by Labor Hero Hoang Duc Thao... VIFOTEC Fund has extensive relations with countries and international organizations in promoting scientific and technological innovation. Every year, VIFOTEC Foundation organizes for young scientists and innovators to participate in international seminars and exhibitions on creativity in the US, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, India, Indonesia. With the close cooperation of the National Office of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology), since 2001, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) of the United Nations has paid attention and highly appreciated the activities of the VIFOTEC Foundation and cooperated with the Fund to award gold medals and certificates to Vietnamese talents.
According to the President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, the President of the VIFOTEC Foundation Phan Xuan Dung, that success was achieved thanks to the efforts, determination and enthusiasm of many generations of the Fund's leaders; consensus, unanimity, dedication, responsibility and creativity towards the assigned tasks of the staffs and employees of VIFOTEC Fund. In particular, the Foundation has always followed the teachings of General Vo Nguyen Giap - the Foundation's first honorary President, namely: Science - Justice - Integrity - Efficiency. "The General's enthusiastic advice has become the strength and motivation so that during the 30-year journey, the VIFOTEC Foundation has overcome all difficulties and successfully completed the assigned tasks ", Mr. Phan Xuan Dung emphasized.
Workers of Vietnam Science and Technology Joint Stock Company built the embankment to protect the Hoan Kiem lake - the work that won the first prize of the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Award and the WIPO Award in 2021.
Make the Fund more and more sustainably developed
Regarding the development direction in the coming time, Standing Vice President of VIFOTEC Fund – Mr. Phan Xuan Dung said: “We must continue to innovate thinking and act decisively, in order to mobilize and effectively use all resources, especially strongly promoting the intellectual capital and creativity of Vietnamese people, taking science, technology and innovation are the most important driving forces in the establishment of socialism and firmly defend the Socialist Vietnamese Fatherland".
According to VIFOTEC Standing Vice President Le Xuan Thao, one of the current difficulties is the limited resources of the Fund. “In the early years of operation, the Fund's resources relied on three main sources: support from the State (50%), support from organizations and individuals (30%) and from savings accounts (20%). However, in recent years, because businesses and donors have faced many financial difficulties, the Fund's main source of revenue has come from the support of the State," said Mr. Le Xuan Thao.
In order for the scientific and technological innovation movement to go deeper, more substantive and more effective; as well as for VIFOTEC Fund to develop more sustainably and achieve more success, VIFOTEC Fund Director Nguyen Xuan Tien said that it is necessary to promote propaganda, dissemination and professional guidance to participate in the award to the grassroots; propose to the State to lend capital from the Science and Technology Fund to expand production and consumption of products of award-winning works; have policies to encourage the use of domestically created products, replacing imported products.
