The ASEAN sustainable energy challenge was shared with AFEO Energy Working Group
In the afternoon of August 18, 2020, Energy Working group of ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO) held the online forum in the framework of AFEO Midterm 19.
The forum was chaired by Mr. Francis Xavier Jacob, Chairman of AFEO Energy Working Group.
The Vietnamese representatives attending the forum were experts, engineers of Vietnam Electricity Association, Mrs. Duong Thi Nga, Director of International Cooperation Department affiliated to VUSTA, and Mrs. Nguy Thi Khanh – Director of Green Innovation Development Centre.
The delegates updated the results of the Group since CAFEO37 in 2019 and reviewed the activities need deploying in oncoming time. As usual in AFEO Midterm Conference, representatives of AFEO members present report on the situation of energy development of each country. Being the representative for Vietnam, Mrs. Nguy Thi Khanh presented an updated report on the electricity sector and current situation of Vietnamese energy sector and the trend of transition to clean energy. Accordingly, as of June 2020, Vietnam’s electricity product is 117,384 million kWh, commercial electricity for industry makes up for 55%, the goal of 100% rural electrification by 2020 has not been achieved and set out the goal that 100% of households in countryside will have electricity by 2025. Renewable energy is planned from 6.5% in 2020 to 10.7% by 2030.
At the forum, Mrs. Duong Thi Nga shared VUSTA’s viewpoint on organizing the ASEAN Sustainable Energy Initiative in order to call, encourage young ASEAN engineers to seek technical and technological solutions, innovation to settle common regional problems, gradually find out initiatives for cooperation and implement them in ASEAN. The fields of competition are all innovative solutions and idea for sustainable energy development of ASEAN and each member country, including clean energy and storage batteries; smart electrical grid; energy saving and management; customer experience; tram; business model initiative; IOT & digitization; access to energy; block chain.
The initiative of VUSTA was supported by the members of AFEO Energy Working Group, and agreed to submit to AFEO Leaders for approval to become a formal activity within the framework of annual CAFEO conference.
