VUSTA President Message CAFEO38

VUSTA President Message CAFEO38

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

VUSTA is very honored to take the Chairmanship of AFEO in 2020 and organize the 38 thConference of the Federation. When we received the AFEO flag from Jakarta September last year, we had been very eager to welcome you all to the beautiful Da Nang City for CAFEO38. The COVID-19 had prevented us from gathering in Viet Nam but could not hinder our bonding as a unique engineering community of ASEAN. At the Mid-term Governing Board Meeting this year, we have decided to organize the first ever online CAFEO, adapting and adopting new models of collaboration among ourselves and with the other counterparts in the region.

For the past 38 years the CAFEO has provided engineers within and outside the ASEAN region with a platform to discuss and share experiences, new ideas as well as viewpoints about important issues, challenges and opportunities for engineering, technology, education, environment protection and sustainable development. The 10 AFEO member organizations joining with other engineering institutions and unions, have been making great efforts in developing a cooperative, unified and strong community of ASEAN professional engineers.

This year’s theme “Fostering Initiatives and actions by AFEO to build a Sustainable and Prosperous ASEAN Community” shall demonstrate the ultimate mission of engineers in any society – guaranteeing the quality of people’s living conditions, by all means and in any circumstances, to bring prosperity for all. Such silent devotion by engineers in building a sustainable, resilient and prosperous ASEAN community should be honored and celebrated.

I am confident that at the CAFEO38, AFEO, the biggest ASEAN engineer’s community, will work together and propose innovative and technological measures to address today’s challenges such as climate change, energy crisis, infrastructure insufficiency, economic downturn and inequality, especially the new challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taking this opportunity, I wish to express my appreciation to all friends and colleagues of the AFEO member institutions, representatives of the foreign delegations in Hanoi, state agencies and international organizations, member organizations of VUSTA who have participated, both virtually and physically, and contributed to the success of CAFEO 38, the first ever virtual Conference in the 38 years’ history of AFEO.

I would also like to extend the deepest gratitude to the all the member of the CAFEO38 Organising Committee members and the AFEO Secretariat who have been doing their best for the successful, fruitful and remarkable CAFEO38.

I wish you all stay safe, good health and success.

Welcome to CAFEO38!

Prof. Dr.Sc., Dang Vu Minh
