VUSTA’s press in Industry 4.0 flow

The website vusta.vn of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) has been operationalized since 2002. So far, the website has grown strongly in terms of quantity, quality, contents and especially a huge team of collaborators, including those who did technical researches originally and then became real and active journalists and making the website more and more popular and diversified.

Prof. Dang Vu Minh – former President of VUSTA stressed the role of the website as the bay engulfing scientific and technological intellectuals both in domestic and abroad scale. The website is the fastest and closest bridge between member unions and agencies of the VPC, the State, Vietnam Fatherland Front and other organizations in order to work out the solutions for commonplace issues in the activities of VUSTA.

In the flow of Vietnam’ press community, the website has made active contribution to the dissemination of information and propaganda work, performing the role of orientation of public opinion, and acting as a bridge among the CPV, the State and intelligentsia; Participating in monitoring and giving feedback; consolidating and developing organizations and promoting the activities of member unions; Taking part in the socialization of scientific and technological activities, education and training, healthcare for the people and for the development of the community as well as hunger eradication and poverty alleviation; Developing the work of mobilizing scientific and technological intellectuals; Acting as a member of Vietnam Fatherland Front; Strengthening the cooperation with associations, non-government organizations of other countries, participating in regional and international science and technology organizations.

Presently, Industry 4.0 is taking place strongly, international and Vietnamese press agencies, especially the VUSTA’s affiliated ones have made accordingly changes to match the requirements of digital era.

The development of science and technology has open up countless opportunities as well as challenges to journalism. In the modern media environment, reporters and journalists are free to create new media products which are diversified in form and rich in content. Multimedia journalism products have been created, which are unlike the articles consisting of only texts and illustrations in the past. At present, press articles include texts, videos, animations, audio files, graphics which are designed in a completely new way. Information about events permeates the internet and everyone can access to a huge source of news, and most of them are free.

It is the change in the way that readers get access to information sources that causes great pressure to force the press make changes, otherwise the press industry will be left behind.

On the one hand, reporters have a lot of great opportunities for creativeness, on the other hand, they encounter a number of challenges in fostering their skills, updating technology, reinvent their own works. The result of these challenges and opportunities is the appearance of many innovative, non-traditional solutions, that utilize the power of technology to improve business models and information transmission methods. Process of these changes bring about modern journalism experience and skills such as converting traditional journalism model to online one; and apply multimedia technology to innovate the form and content; as well as exploit mobile and digital platform etc.

In the context that internet and social networks have far-reaching effect, which help users connect with many sources of news, the press is no longer an exclusive means of communication but is put into a competitive position, while having to ensure the speed of communication, and affirming its credibility to the public. In order to become the selected source of information, creating strong competition for social networks, with countless fake news, unverified news, the press must verify information and review. Thus, press agencies must take the leading role and be responsible for providing quick, honest and accurate information in order to compete with social networks in terms of legality and reliability of information.

More than ever, current press agencies and journalists need to make continuous efforts to update journalistic knowledge in the 4th industrial era, ready to take on challenges, go along with the trend, to grow and mature and at the same time keep the fire of the Vietnamese revolutionary press.

In line with the flow of contemporary journalism, with its available advantages, the website vusta.vn is transforming with a vibrant development path, has been making constant efforts to improve the quality of posted news. However, in order to enhance the effectiveness of activities as well as better serve the target audience,

the organization, management and operation of the website vusta.vn need to focus on its contents and the officials who take charge of managing and operating the website must always be fostered, updated knowledge related to their profession, computer information, press etc. in order to improve the quality of articles, photos posted in the website.

It is necessary to specialize the team of system administrators and website content; organize the sessions for training, gaining experience, propaganda to raise the awareness of the importance of exploiting information in the internet for public servants and employees… Experiences through learning and research from other units should be distilled, disseminated, extracted and applied in the work of website management and operation.

When building mechanism, policies and operation of the website, it is necessary to clearly define the role and function of the website in carrying out the propaganda and dissemination of the image of VUSTA, especially in this age when the internet dominates in the fastest transmission of information. The implementation of functions and tasks of the website must comply with provisions of law on Information and Technology, the Law on Press and other relevant legal instruments.
