ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations convenes 38th conference in Hanoi
Ha Noi – The 38th conference of the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (CAFEO38) is taking place in Hanoi from November 18 to 26 under the theme “Fostering initiatives and actions by AFEO to build a sustainable and prosperous ASEAN Community”.
The annual event, hosted by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA), has brought together thousands of professional engineers and the leaders of 10 ASEAN member countries.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, CAFEO38 will feature group and thematic meetings in online form from November 18 to 24, with opening and closing sessions scheduled for November 25 and 26 respectively.
At the conference, participants will discuss several topics, including “Engineering for ASEAN’s future: Sustainability, diversity and high responsiveness”, “Future ready labour force: Innovative education for the next generation of ASEAN engineers”, “Industry 4.0 in energy, energy efficiency, green enviornmental technology for a climate, disaster proof and resilient ASEAN”, and “People-centred connectivity: Advanced connectivity, technology and solutions in ICT, transportation and energy”.
CAFEO38 is expected to issue a joint statement reiterating AFEO’s commitment to fully and effectively implementing the ASEAN Community Vision 2025, the ASEAN Leaders’ Vision Statement on a Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN: Rising Above Challenges and Sustaining Growth, and the 2030 United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development throuhg important initiatives and AFEO working groups.
CAFEO is an activity held annually by 10 ASEAN member states in rotation. The federation was established in 1982 and is now home to engineering institutions from around the various countries involved.
Since its inception, AFEO has constantly promoted its role of gathering and developing a team of engineers in the region, proposing technical solutions and initatives, cooperating in research, developing technology and training technical human resources, and strengthening exchanges between engineers from within and outside the bloc, contributing significantly to the formation and development of the ASEAN Community.
